Debriefing: what is the difference between hand luggage and personal items?
What is a personal item?
A personal item is something that you can take on board with your hand luggage for free and without weighing: a small bag, a backpack or something from this list:
- Baby food that your child will need during the flight
- A cradle, a stroller and other devices for carrying a child. Dimensions must strictly comply with the rules of the carrier’s rules.
- Medicines in the amount necessary for the duration of the flight.
- Crutches, walking sticks, walkers, rollators, folding wheelchair
- Suit in garment bag
- Small umbrella
- Goods purchased in duty-free shops at the airport, packed in a sealed (sealed) plastic bag, the weight and dimensions of which are established by the carrier’s rules
- Photos, camcorders and laptops are usually asked to be packed in hand luggage.
It is very important to consider that each airline has its own rules. They must be clarified before leaving for the airport.
Personal belongings and carry-on luggage: what’s the difference?
This is where size matters. A personal item is usually small (the airline’s permissible dimensions are always indicated on the website) and is placed under the front seat. Carry-on baggage can be quite bulky and most often flies in the overhead baggage compartment.
The airline sets the rules for the carriage of personal items in the cabin Usually, the current standards are laid out in the public domain on the carrier’s website. These are the conditions for carriage of things on board the most popular airlines among tripmydream users.
